Stem Cap Installation
Good on you for purchasing a Bikelangelo stem cap! We love that you care about your bike and want it to look awesome. Our lawyers have asked us to include some fine print so you don't mess up the installation, but here's the short version: if you're not familiar with installing stem caps and adjusting headsets, get a professional to help you! It's not a difficult process, but you need to do it correctly for your bike to be safe. Okay? Okay. Now the fine print:
It is recommended that a professional bicycle mechanic install your new threadless stem cap and bolt, especially if you do not have access to a torque wrench. If you have any questions concerning installation, contact a professional bike mechanic for assistance. Please read the following instructions thoroughly before proceeding with installation. All instructions must be followed and torque values adhered to. Failure to do so can result in damage to the bicycle, loss of control, and serious injury or death to the rider.
Warning: You must have a 1-1/8" threadless system to use this stem cap and bolt. Attempting to install on any other system can result in damage to the bicycle, loss of control, and serious injury or death to the rider.
-remove current stem cap and bolt
-loosen stem bolts at steer tube
-place Bikelangelo stem cap on top of stem and insert bolt
-thread bolt into star nut, but do not tighten
-preload the headset by tightening the bolt to torque specified by headset manufacturer
-preload should be such that no binding or play (looseness) are present
-align stem and wheel and tighten stem bolts to torque specified by stem manufacturer
Care and Cleaning
Bikes are meant to be ridden, and the world's a dirty place. Should your Bikelangelo stem cap get dirty, here are some tips to keep it looking fresh:
-Do not clean stem caps with abrasive cleaners. These caps are a work of art. Just like you wouldn't polish your Ferrari with a Scotch-Brite pad, don't scrub your stem cap with hard materials or tough chemicals. Just use a clean rag and some soapy water.
-Avoid contact with tools and other hard surfaces, as you can scratch the surface of the stem caps. They're built tough, but they're not invincible.
